Metal Roofing Pros & Cons

Metal Roofing Pros & Cons

Metal Roofing Pros & Cons

Pros

Fire Resistance

-Metal roofing protects against flying embers & sparks

Superior Wind Resistance

-Metal roofing panels interlock giving you a superior defense against wind

Significantly less weight than asphalt shingles

-Lowest weight residential roofs available often times allowing for metal to be installed over existing asphalt shingles avoiding disposal of existing shingles in landfills.

Energy Efficiency

- Due to the special coatings used on our metal roofing products your summer cooling costs can be reduced by as much as 20%.

Lifetime Roofing Product

-Metal roofing will out perform & out last asphalt shingles by 2-3x.  The average life span of asphalt shingles is 12-13years.  The average life of a metal roof is 35-60 years. At the end of a metal roofs life cycle, the product is 100% recyclable oppose to other roofing products that require landfill disposal.

Solves common/known roofing problems

-Metal roofing systems use reliable color matched metal flashings eliminating the use of adhesives and sealants to protect your home.  Metal flashings will outlast sealants by decades.

Impact Resistant

-Metal roofing will give your home an added layer of protection & resistance to hail producing weather events.

Cons

More expensive than asphalt shingles

- Metal roofing is more expensive than asphalt shingles due to a much superior product and  installation costs.

Longer Installation times than asphalt roofing products.

-Most common asphalt roofing shingles can be installed with inaccurate power nailers.  Metal roofing  is installed by hand using clips & fasteners, and fasteners through nailing flanges.

Listening to the Rain Song

-Metal roofing can have a slightly higher decibel reading than asphalt shingles during rain events.  if noise is an issue there are several ways we can dampen the noise in specific areas as needed.  Rain noise on a skylight window is louder than rain hitting a metal roof.

Vistors & Neighbors

If you don't like visitors or talking with neighbors and onlookers, a metal roof might not be for you.  Because of the beauty and colors available  in metal roofs, often times homeowners looking into roofing replacement will seek out information from other homeowners who have metal roofing installed.
